Magic corners

Using any computer, Mac or PC, requires you to switch back and forth between your mouse and keyboard.

Here’s how to speed up your workflow when you’re using your mouse. I call it magic corners, and it annoys the hell out of anyone who wants to use my mac.

Open System Preferences, then the Dashboard & Expose preference pane.

Dashboard & Expose

Now assign a function to EVERY corner of your screen (hey — why not use all you have).

Assign the corners as follows:

  • Top left: Expose Application Windows
  • Top right: Expose ALL Windows
  • Bottom left: Dashboard
  • Bottom right: Desktop

Assigning corners

From now on, you’ll have to be more careful when you move your mouse, but you’ll quickly get the hang of it. You’ll have instant access to features that will greatly improve your workflow with quick mouse movements.

For example, it’s very easy to drag stuff to the desktop now, since you just start dragging, touch the bottom right corner, and drop on the desktop.

Or, it’s takes half a second to check out what day it is on the dashboard, just touch the corner twice really quickly, and you’ll get a glimpse of your dashboard calendar.

You probably know and love expose, but chances are you never use the “Expose Application Windows” feature, which is a great choice in many cases where you have many windows in an application like terminal.

Enjoy, - Rob
